Accept credit card payments

Stripe, Authorize.Net, Braintree, and Payyo (on request) are payment gateways that allow you to accept all major credit cards. We strongly recommend accepting credit cards as it will enhance your website's credibility and is the most convenient form of payment for your guests. Furthermore, credit card payments offer you a variety of further functionalities to automize your day-to-day processes.

Requirements and conditions of the gateways

Before connecting those payment gateways to Lodgify, check the following:

  1. In some countries, one or more payment gateways might not be available. Check out which payment gateway is available in which countries.
💡 Note: You won't see Authorize.Net and Braintree in your account if your billing address is in the EU.
  2. You must have an existing merchant account in the credit card gateway to be able to connect it to Lodgify.
  3. Review the fees for receiving payments through Stripe, Authorize.Net, and Braintree.

💡 Note: Signing up to Stripe / creating a Stripe account through the connection process with Lodgify means that the Stripe account can only be used with Lodgify. If you would like to retain the option to connect to other tools, please sign up directly on Stripe's website.

Authorize.Net and Braintree
💡 Note: This will only be visible if your billing address or phone country code is not in the EU.

Once the connection with your payment gateways is set up, your guests will be able to fill in their credit card details directly on the check-out page.

💡 Note: You will be charged a 1% + VAT Transaction Fee by Lodgify for each payment received via Stripe, and a 1% Transaction Fee for each payment received via Authorize.Net, Braintree, and Paypal. This transaction fee is charged so we can continuously work on offering more value-adding payment-related features for you. For Stripe only: If you prefer to pay a monthly flat fee instead, sign up for Stripe Premium.

Additional information on Stripe accounts

If you chose to connect with Stripe, here are some extra information:

  • Google Pay and Apple Pay payment methods are enabled by default on your checkout page. You can disable them in your Stripe dashboard under the Wallets section:
💡 Note: These payment methods incur the same Stripe fees as credit cards.Screenshot 2024-05-22 at 09.58.54.png

  • If you created your account from Stripe or if you logged in with an existing Stripe account, your connection with Lodgify will be classified as a business. So within your Stripe account, you can add or remove any other businesses (or connections), as you consider necessary. A connection created using Lodgify will show up in your Stripe dashboard with the Lodgify symbol.

You can always remove a Lodgify-connected account by going to Account settings in Stripe and clicking Close account at the bottom right of the page.
If you have any other questions regarding your Stripe account, please contact Stripe or refer to their guide here.

💡 Note: Keep in mind that Lodgify does not have access to your Stripe account, associated connections, or funds within. If you have any issues with your account, please contact Stripe customer support.

Configure your credit card settings

You can also configure some additional settings in your credit card section in Lodgify. To do so, click on your activated credit card gateway. A slide-in window will appear where you can configure your credit card settings.

How Lodgify transaction fees are refunded

When accepting payments through credit cards, certain fees are charged per transaction depending on the activated payment gateway. When issuing a refund to the guest, these fees will be refunded to you in proportion to the amount.

🔎 Example:

If the transaction fee was 3€ and you return 50% of the prepayments received, you will be refunded 1,50€ of the transaction fee.

See below for more details:

If the payment gateway is... then...
Stripe

If you refund the partial or total value of a booking within Lodgify we will refund the partial/total Lodgify Transaction Fee.

💡 Note: For information about the refund of Stripe's direct fees, please contact their customer support.

💡 Note: If you handle a refund directly from your Stripe account, contact their support to inquire about the refunding of the transaction fee.

Payyo If you refund the partial or total value of a booking within Lodgify we will refund the partial/total fee charged for the received transaction.
Braintree If you refund the partial or total value of a booking within Lodgify we will refund the Transaction Fee at the end of the month (or if in the same month, the Transaction Fee won't be invoiced). Braintree will refund the partial/total Braintree Fee charged for the received transaction.
Authorize.Net If you refund the partial or total value of a booking within Lodgify we will refund the Transaction Fee at the end of the month (or if in the same month, the Transaction Fee won't be invoiced). Authorize.Net will refund the partial/total Authorize.Net Fee charged for the received transaction.
Paypal As refunds for Paypal payments need to be handled manually outside of Lodgify, the Transaction Fee cannot be refunded.

🔎 Use case: What happens if you change from Payyo to Stripe?

If you are connected to Payyo but want to change your credit card payment gateway to Stripe, you can do so. Just go to your payment settings and activate Stripe as a payment gateway.
Important: For all bookings that have pending transactions, the payment request will not happen automatically in this case. This is because the new payment gateway (Stripe) has not yet stored the guest's credit card information. Therefore, you will need to send the guest a manual payment request. All new transactions will be handled automatically via Stripe.
