Link an existing domain to your Lodgify website and manage your DNS settings

If you have a domain with an external host, such as GoDaddy, Google Domains, or 1&1, you can link it to your Lodgify website. This applies to monthly subscriptions, which require you to either register a custom domain with an external provider or retain your existing domain with your current provider.
If you want to use multiple domain names, you’ll also need to follow this process.

💡 Note: With a yearly or bi-yearly subscription, you can register one domain per account or transfer one existing domain per account at no extra cost. Learn how to upgrade your subscription here.

⚠ IMPORTANT: Any domain displaying your Lodgify website will receive SSL certificates to secure your website from us once the DNS settings are fully propagated (which can take up to 48 hours). You do not need to purchase SSL from a third party. If your domain appears to be correctly set up but lacks an SSL certificate after that period, check your domain for CAA records, which can prevent SSL issuance.

Link your domain and change your DNS settings

To link a domain from an external provider to your Lodgify website, you first need to enter your domain into Lodgify. Then, follow the steps provided in Lodgify to update the DNS settings in your domain host's DNS Manager (where your domain is hosted).
⚠ IMPORTANT: Please follow the complete domain-linking procedure, as it will only work if setup is completed in both Lodgify and your domain provider.

To link your domain or change your DNS settings, go to your Account Menu in the bottom left corner, select Website builder and Settings.

💡 Note: If you already linked your domain name and just want to update your DNS settings, go directly to this step.

  1. In the Settings tab, choose Domain, and then click Use a domain you own.

You can ignore the rest of this article unless you need to link multiple domains to your website; in that case, please refer to the last section of the article.

If your domain provider is not listed above, please follow the instructions in the rest of this article:
  3. You will be directed to the DNS settings page, where you’ll find instructions for configuring your domain with your provider. Since each domain provider may have slightly different processes, you can find useful links to the setup instructions for the most common providers.
If the information below doesn't match your provider's setup or if you're having trouble getting your domain to work correctly, please reach out to their support team for assistance.
Here are the instructions provided on Lodgify, follow these steps in the given order to avoid website accessibility issues:
    1. Validate CAA and DNSSEC settings in your DNS manager: remove any CAA or DNSSEC records.
    2. Add TXT and CNAME records to your DNS manager: copy and paste the TXT and CNAME records with the corresponding values into your domain provider’s DNS settings. Then remove the old CNAME record.
Please add the new CNAME records first, then remove the old ones to avoid caching issues.
    3. Add new A records in your DNS manager: add two new A record entries on your domain provider's DNS settings page by copying and pasting the IP address 162.159.128.68 for both entries.
    4. Remove old A records in your DNS manager: remove the old A records shown on Lodgify’s settings page.
Please add new A records (step 3) before deleting the old ones (step 4) to avoid losing access to your website.
      💡 Notes:
      • Set the minimum TTL on all records.
      • During a transition from previous Lodgify DNS settings to new ones, your website will remain accessible. The steps are configured to ensure continuous browsing of your website during the transition.
      • If you need to redo the process, you can click Try Again to speed up the process.
  4. Set as main domain:

  5. You can now take the necessary actions with your domain provider to complete the SSL flow.
💡 Note: Ensure that DNSSEC and CAA records are disabled to proceed.

Useful information

Here are links to instructions on how to set up these records with the most common domain providers:

The TTL (Time-To-Live) determines how long the record is cached, so it’s important to set this to the lowest possible value on your domain provider’s DNS settings page.

Ensure there are no other A records for www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com. Also, ensure you don't have any CNAME, AAAA, CAA, or DNSSEC records for these names.

The nameservers should always be managed by your domain host, so no changes to them are needed when linking your domain to your Lodgify site.

Once you've changed the records, it may take a few minutes for verification checks. These checks validate that the changes you made to TXT, CNAME, and A records were successful. If changes were made several hours after starting the process, validation can take up to 48 hours. You can read more about the validation process and expected durations, especially if the verification takes more than 48 hours.
If you still receive an error message after 48 hours, check your A records, as they may be incorrectly configured. For further assistance, feel free to contact us.Screenshot

Link multiple domains to your website

You can link multiple domains to your website if, for instance, you have an old domain that guests are familiar with or simply want an additional domain.
🔎 Example: Facebook can be accessed by typing www.fb.com or www.facebook.com; both redirect to the main site (www.facebook.com).

If you have a monthly subscription and want to link an additional domain, follow the same steps as for the first domain. Once both domains are linked, decide which one to use as the default and which one as the secondary domain. Guests entering the secondary domain will be redirected to the main one.

If you have an annual or bi-yearly subscription, you can register or transfer one directly in Lodgify and link a second domain.

💡 Note: If you skip the step of setting your domain as the main domain, this page will appear instead of your website:
