If you have a domain with an external domain host such as Godaddy or 1&1, you can connect the domain to your Lodgify website. This applies if you previously already had a website and want to keep your old domain, or if you have a monthly subscription and have to register your custom domain with an external provider. In case you want to have two domain names, you also need to follow this process.
💡 Note: Every domain showing your Lodgify website will have SSL certificates issued by us (after the DNS settings are fully propagated, which can take up to 48hrs). You do not need to purchase it from a 3rd party.
Link your domain
To connect a domain from an external provider with your Lodgify website, you need to edit the settings of both your DNS Manager where your domain is hosted and your Lodgify account.
- Go to your Main Menu in the top left corner and select Websites.
- Choose the website you want to amend, click Edit and select Settings.
- Select the Domain tab and click Link existing domain.
- A pop-up window appears. Enter your domain address, review the configuration settings and click Accept.
💡 Note: The check-box to connect a subdomain is only relevant if you are using our Search Bar widget on an external website and want to connect the All Properties page to a subdomain (e.g. bookings.yourdomain.com) to seamlessly integrate the widget in your external website.
In your Domain Provider (where your domain is hosted)
Each domain provider works slightly different so please make sure you get in touch with their support team if the information provided below doesn't add up or you can't get the domain to work correctly. In the table you can find specific instructions for domains hosted with GoDaddy and some general guidelines to follow for other domain providers:
|If the domain is registered with...||then...|
💡 Note: Please ensure that there are no other A-records with these names. As well, please make sure that there are no CNAME records with these names or any AAAA records.
💡 Note: The nameservers should always be provided by the domain host. This means that no changes to the nameservers are necessary when linking your domain to your Lodgify site.
💡 Note: It may take a few hours before the DNS changes become effective. If after 48h you still receive the following error message, check your A records, they may have been set up incorrectly. If you need further help, simply contact us.
💡 Note: If you already had a website, you should redirect your URLs in order to keep the Google ranking of your old website and apply it to the new website. Redirecting the URLs will tell Google that the content that could be found previously on the page https://www.hello-berlin-flats.com/photos can now be found on a different website https://www.hello-berlin-flats.com/gallery. We suggest you ask your domain provider for assistance with the redirection. Once you have a custom domain connected to your website, verify the ownership of your website in the Google Search Console which allows you to monitor and maintain your website's presence and optimize its performance in the Google search listings.
Connect an additional domain
You can also connect an additional domain to your website. Maybe you had a different domain on your old website and don't want to give it up because your guests know this one so well, or you simply want to have an additional one. Facebook, for example, has more than one domain, you can get to your facebook site by typing in www.fb.com or www.facebook.com, both direct to the same page (with default domain www.facebook.com).
If you have a monthly subscription and want to connect more than one domain to your website, simply follow the same steps as for the first domain. Once both domains are linked, decide which one you want to use as default one and which one will be your secondary domain, so when a guest types in your second domain, he will automatically be redirected to your default one.
💡 Note: If you have a yearly or bi-yearly subscription you can register one directly in Lodgify and link the second one.
💡 Note: The two arrows in front of the domain name (see above) show that a domain is linked to your website and not registered in Lodgify.
