Lodgify Payments: Understanding Your 1099-K

A 1099-K is a U.S. tax form that reports the total amount of payments you received through Lodgify Payments during the year. It’s issued for tax reporting purposes and is sent to both you and the IRS.

The 1099-K reports gross payment volume, meaning it shows all payments your account received during the year, regardless of whether any of those payments were later refunded or reversed due to chargebacks. The IRS uses this to track total income processed through your account, not your net income.

FAQ

What are the eligibility requirements for receiving a 1099-K form?

You will receive the 1099-K form if you meet the following requirements:

  • You are based in the U.S. or are a U.S. taxpayer, and
  • You processed more than $20,000 USD in total gross volume and had 200 or more transactions in the previous calendar year.

Which tax year does the 1099-K cover?

The 1099-K tax year is January 1 to December 31 of the same calendar year.

🔎 For example:

  • Payments made between Jan 1, 2025 – Dec 31, 2025
  • are reported on a 2025 1099-K,
  • which you receive in January 2026.

When will the 1099-K be sent by Lodgify Payments?

You will receive your 1099-K form by email at the beginning of February.

What information does the 1099-K show?

The form shows the gross amount of payments processed during the year. This is the total before deductions such as:

  • refunds
  • fees
  • chargebacks
  • taxes

Because of this, the amount on the 1099-K may be higher than what you actually received in payouts.

My payment gateway was Stripe and I switched to Lodgify Payments during the calendar year. What happens?

If you meet the IRS requirements for both Stripe and Lodgify Payments, you will receive a separate 1099-K for each account, as each account is treated individually for reporting purposes. If you meet the criteria for a 1099-K while using Stripe, you can download it directly from your Stripe account. If you meet the criteria for Lodgify Payments, we will email you the 1099-K.

Do I need to pay tax on this amount?

The 1099-K itself doesn’t determine how much tax you owe. It’s a reporting form. How it applies to your taxes depends on your individual situation, so we recommend speaking with a tax professional or checking IRS guidance.

What should I do if something looks incorrect on the 1099-K form?

If your personal or business details on the form are incorrect and you use Lodgify Payments, contact us and we can help amend it.
If your personal or business details on the form are incorrect and it was downloaded from Stripe, you can update these details from the Documents section of the Stripe Dashboard.

What information can be updated or changed on the 1099-K form?

On the 1099-K form, only the name, address, and TIN (SSN or EIN) can be corrected.
The gross payment amounts cannot be changed. Note that full and partial refunds are not deducted from the reported gross volume.
