While Lodgify is making sure that its own operations will comply with GDPR, and to provide its customers with the tools to help comply with the GDPR, each customer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that their business complies with the laws of the jurisdictions in which they operate or have guests. This article explains how you can add a privacy policy to your website and require your guests to consent to your privacy policy before making a booking. As this is especially one of the requirements of the new data privacy regulation you should have a look. Follow this link to Learn more about GDPR & Lodgify.

Create your privacy policy page on your Lodgify website

💡 Note: There are several free online tools that help you generate GDPR compliant texts for your privacy policy. Here are two sites  where you can generate this text for free:

  • Iubenda (click Start Generating in the top right corner, and be sure to select the EU GDPR option when given the chance)
  • DGD

Once you have generated the text of your privacy policy, you need to create a page for it on your website. Typically, the privacy policy page is put in the footer of your Lodgify website, so that it is always accessible to the visitors of your site.  Find out how to create a new page in your footer and then insert your privacy policy in a content widget

Require your guests' consent to your privacy policy

To make sure that your customers need to tick the box that they agree to your privacy policy, you need to activate this feature on your website.

To activate the privacy policy tick box:

  1. Go to your Main Menu in the top left corner and select Websites.
  2. In the Settings tab, go to Advanced, and scroll down to Privacy Consent Checkbox.
  3. Select Require your visitors to consent to your privacy policy before submitting any Lodgify form and choose the page where you would like the privacy policy link (that prompts your customer to consent) to lead to.

💡 Note: The checkbox will show during checkout, as well as when submitting a form e.g. form for Contact us, Reviews, Call me back, Owner sign up, etc.
