Cookies are small files that are stored on a user's computer. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website. Create a cookie policy page for your website
Your Lodgify website will have a cookie policy by default to comply with GDPR laws. The cookie policy is always available to your visitors and cannot be disabled. Whether the consent banner appears as well depends on where the visitor is browsing from, as explained in Cookie consent by visitor location.
If you prefer, you can create your own custom cookie policy for your website.
To include a custom cookie policy on your website, create a dedicated page (e.g., in the footer) that provides visitors with information on which cookies are placed on the website and what visitor information they collect. To make it easier, we have created a cookie policy template that lists all cookies automatically integrated into your Lodgify website: Cookie policy template.
💡 Notes:
- Inside the document accessed through the above links, you'll find host names marked in yellow. You must replace these with your website's domain name.
- If at any point you install external plug-ins or similar, you will need to update the cookie policy accordingly in order to be compliant.
Now, you need to create a page for your cookie policy on your website. Typically, the cookie policy page is put in the footer of your Lodgify website, so that it is always accessible to the visitors of your site. Find out how to create a new page in your footer and then insert your cookie policy in a content section.
Activate the cookie policy pop-up
- Go to your left-hand menu and select Website builder.
- In the Settings tab, go to Advanced and scroll down to Cookie policy pop-up.
- Select Show Cookie Policy Page and select the page (e.g., Cookies) that you have created in the above step. The Learn More link (that appears in the cookie policy pop-up) will then lead the customer to your cookie policy page.

By clicking Customize, your guests can choose whether to allow analytical cookies or not.
Cookie consent by visitor location
Privacy laws differ from one country to another, and they decide when you need a visitor's permission before analytics cookies are used on your website.
- In some countries, you must ask first. The visitor gives permission before any analytics cookie is used. This is called opt-in.
- In other countries, analytics cookies can be used straight away, as long as the visitor can turn them off whenever they want. This is called opt-out.
Since October 21, 2026, your Lodgify website recognizes which of the two applies. It detects the country the visitor is browsing from and follows that country's rules automatically, so you do not need to change any settings.

💡 Notes:
- When the location is unknown, for example behind a VPN or after a lookup error, the visitor is treated as opt-in, and the banner appears. The same applies to any country that is not on the opt-out list.
- Every visitor browsing from Canada sees the banner, Quebec included.
- India, Bangladesh, and Paraguay are opt-out today. They move to opt-in when their laws take effect: India on May 13, 2027, Bangladesh around May 2027, and Paraguay around November 2027.
In both cases, your guests stay in control of their data and can see how it is used.
