⚠️ As of Jan 2020, the feature to have multiple room types is no longer available.

If you have a rental with several rooms or apartments you can choose to set it up either as one rental with multiple room/rental types or as a rental with multiple units. Find out which option would suit you best.

Read about:

Use cases

Use case for Room types: You own a house with two apartments, one has 2 bedrooms and costs $150 per night. The other apartment is a studio flat with a double bed and a kitchenette that costs $100 per night.

Use case for Units: You own an apartment building and all apartments are identical in design and size and cost $200 per night.

Use case for Room types and Units: You own a hotel with different room categories a certain number of rooms from each (5 single room, 10 double room, 1 suite). You would need to set up a room type for each category and then set up 5 units for the single room and 10 units for the double room.

Differences between room types and units

In the following table, you can see the differences between units and multiple room types so you can decide which option suits you best.
💡 Note: If you want to import and export reservations from external sources such as booking.com you need to set your rental up the same way as it is set up in the external channel. So if you have room types in booking.com, you need to set up room types in Lodgify as well.

Room types Units

Each room type has different specs such as:

  • Photos
  • Size
  • Amenities etc.
All units have the same specs and same design.
Room types can have different prices. All units have the same price.
The setup is more complex as each room type needs to be set up separately. The setup is simple as you just increase the number of units in the Rental Info/Room type info. Find out more here.
Each booking has a specific room type assigned and you cannot interchange rooms in bookings.  More flexibility in bookings as no specific unit is assigned to a booking, so you can assign the rooms at check-in as it suits you.
No extra costs

To use units you need the Bookable Units App which comes at a small extra cost.

Promotions can be applied to a specific room type. Promotions can only be applied to all units.
Closed Periods can be applied to each room type separately. Closed periods will be applied to all units. It is not possible to only block one unit.

How to set up multiple room types

⚠️ As of Jan 2020, the feature to have multiple room types is no longer available.

When creating a new rental, the system will ask you if your new rental has multiple room types so you can select right at the time of setting up a new rental. If you change your mind at a later point you can still switch.

To do so follow these steps:

  1.  Go into your Main Menu in the top left corner and select Rentals.
  2. Choose the rental you want to edit and go to Overview.
  3. In the section Rental type, click Change Room Type Configuration. 2020-01-13_1141.png
  4. A new pop-up window appears where you can change the configuration.
  5. Now you will see a new section in Rental type where you can edit the existing room type or add a new one. Find more instructions on how to set up your room type in this article.2020-01-13_1143.png

Then follow these steps:

  1. Go into your Main Menu in the top left corner and select Rentals.
  2. Choose the rental you want to edit and go to Overview.
  3. In the section Rental info, click Edit rental info. A new slider will appear where you can edit the number of units.2020-01-13_1146.png
💡 Note: If your Bookable Units App is not activated yet, you will see a warning, that even though you fill in more units, only one unit will be made available in your calendar.
💡 Note: If you select to have units, your website will not show the number of units you have. It only means that your availability calendar will show availability and the room will be bookable on your website until all units are filled up. Also bear in mind that bookings in your reservation system won't have a specific unit allocated, as the system does not distinguish between different units.
