Link an existing domain to your Lodgify website

If you have a domain with an external domain host such as Godaddy, Google Domains, or 1&1, you can link the domain to your Lodgify website. This applies if you previously already had a website and want to keep your old domain, or if you have a monthly subscription and have to register your custom domain with an external provider. In case you want to have two domain names, you also need to follow this process.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: If you have a yearly or bi-yearly subscription, you can also register a domain with Lodgify or transfer your existing domain to Lodgify. Learn here how to upgrade your subscription.

โš  IMPORTANT: Every domain showing your Lodgify website will have SSL certificates issued by us once the DNS settings are fully propagated (this can take up to 48hrs). You do not need to purchase it from a 3rd party. If your domain seems to be set up correctly but does not have an SSL certificate after that time, check your domain for CAA records, as they inhibit our SSL certificates.

Link your domain

To link a domain from an external provider with your Lodgify website, you need to edit the settings of both, your DNS Manager where your domain is hosted, and your Lodgify account.
โš  IMPORTANT: Please ensure to follow the entire procedure of linking your domain, as it will only work if the setup is completed in Lodgify and your domain provider.

In Lodgify

  1. Go to your Main Menu in the top left corner and select Websites.
  2. In the Settings tab, select Domain, and click Link existing domain.
  3. A pop-up window appears. Enter your domain address, review the configuration settings, and click Accept.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: The check-box to link a subdomain is only relevant if you are using our Search Bar widget on an external website and want to connect the All Properties page to a subdomain (e.g. to seamlessly integrate the widget in your external website.

In your Domain Provider (where your domain is hosted)

Each domain provider works slightly differently, so please make sure you get in touch with their support team if the information provided below doesn't add up or you can't get the domain to work correctly.

To set up your DNS records correctly to point your domain to your new Lodgify website, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Go to your domain provider and find the section to manage your DNS Settings.
  2. Here you will need to set up two A records:
    • Set up one of the A records as pointing to IP address: (sometimes your domain name will already be filled in and you only need to add www or @)
    • Set up the second A record as (no www) pointing to IP address:
  3. In the following links, you will find instructions on how and where to set up these A records in the most common domain providers:

๐Ÿ’ก Note: Please ensure that there are no other A-records with these names. As well, please make sure that there are no CNAME records with these names or any AAAA or CAA records.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: The nameservers should always be provided by the domain host. This means that no changes to the nameservers are necessary when linking your domain to your Lodgify site.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: It may take a few hours before the DNS changes become effective. If after 48h you still receive the following error message, check your A records, they may have been set up incorrectly. If you need further help, simply contact us.DNS.png

๐Ÿ’ก Note: If you already had a website, you should redirect your URLs in order to keep the Google ranking of your old website and apply it to the new website. Redirecting the URLs will tell Google that the content that could be found previously on the page can now be found on a different website We suggest you ask your domain provider for assistance with the redirection. Once you have a custom domain connected to your website, verify the ownership of your website in the Google Search Console which allows you to monitor and maintain your website's presence and optimize its performance in the Google search listings.

Link more than one domain to your website

You can also link more than one domain to your website. Maybe you had a different domain on your old website and don't want to give it up because your guests know this one so well, or you simply want to have an additional one.
๐Ÿ”Ž Example: Facebook, for example, has more than one domain, you can get to your Facebook site by typing in or, both direct to the same page (with default domain

If you have a monthly subscription and want to link more than one domain to your website, simply follow the same steps as for the first domain. Once both domains are linked, decide which one you want to use as the default one and which one will be your secondary domain, so when a guest types in your second domain, he will automatically be redirected to your default one.2019-12-04_1113.png

๐Ÿ’ก Note: If you have a yearly or bi-yearly subscription you can register one directly in Lodgify and link the second one.

๐Ÿ’ก Note: The two arrows in front of the domain name (see above) show that a domain is linked to your website and not registered in Lodgify.
